Retail Updates

This website is devoted to our Contract Campaigns.  We are continuously negotiating with employers to get Fair Contracts for our members and the employer's employees.

Some of the employers we deal with are major corporations such as; Safeway, Supervalu (which now owns Albertsons), and Kroger (parent company of Fred Meyer.) They rank among the top 100 richest companies in the nation.  Yet they continue to attempt to cut hours and wages of their work force.  Most employees get around 20 hours a week making it hard to support a family.

This website is one part of a community and membership campaign and it is not designed to bash these companies or imply that they are evil.  In fact, we want our communities to continue to support these union shops.  We encourage people to visit their local union grocery store.  At the same time these employers must be responsible employers.  These companies have publicly stated that their success is do to the dedication and hard work of their employees, and we agree.  Our Union Members work hard for their employers and deserve to be taken care of - they deserve Fair Contracts.

The Portland Area Meat, Grocery, and CCK contracts expire July 26, 2008.  It was UFCW Local 555's goal to be at the bargaining table before the expirations of these contracts but because of the nearly year long struggle in Eugene / Springfield that was not possible.

  • The Dalles   ( 12 Articles )

The Non-Food workers at The Dalles Fred Meyer voted overwhelmingly in November of 2007 to be represented by United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Local 555.  Since that time Fred Meyer has refused to address key issues, such as; seniority, health care, and pensions.

It is time for these hard working people to get a contract.  This sections is devoted to keeping the membership, the non-food workers at The Dalles Fred Meyer, and the public informed about what is going on in Negotiations.
