Grocery Workers United 555

Hello, My Name is Jeff McDonald.  I am the Secretary-Treasurer for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555.  We represent about 19,000 workers in Oregon and SW Washington.  This website is devoted to our Contract Campaign.  Over the next year most of the major contracts we have will be expiring.  We will be negotiating with the employers to get Fair Contracts for our members and the employer's employees.

Some of these major corporations such as; Safeway, Supervalu (which now owns Albertsons), and Kroger (parent company of Fred Meyer), rank among the top 50 richest companies in the nation.  Yet they continue to attempt to cut hours and wages of their work force.  Most employees get around 20 hours a week.

This community and membership campaign is not designed to bash these companies saying they are evil.  In fact what we want to do is to continue to support these union shops.  We encourage people to visit their local union grocery store.  These companies have publicly stated that their success is do to the dedication and hard work of their employees.  Well, I agree.  Our Union Members work hard for their employers and deserve to be taken care of.  They deserve Fair Contracts.  These employers need to show their appreciation for the billions of dollars that the members make for the company.

I encourage everyone to support their Union Grocery Stores and support their Community.
